Governance of Artificial Intelligence for Global Health in Africa

Research Enterprise Systems (RES) partnered with the Science for Africa Foundation (SFAF) to launch the Governance of Artificial Intelligence for Global Health in Africa report, marking a significant step toward evidence-based AI policy on the continent. Drawing from research across 43 countries and insights from over 300 stakeholders, the report identifies critical policy gaps and opportunities to harness AI and data science for better health outcomes in Africa.

As part of this collaboration, the RES team provided technical and policy analysis to align recommendations with Africa’s Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy (STISA-2034), reinforcing the importance of locally informed, context-sensitive approaches to technological adoption in health systems. At the webinar launch, RES Executive Director, Prof. Fatai A. Aremu, shared practical lessons from Nigeria’s efforts in developing AI policy frameworks, emphasizing the need for inclusive, transparent, and ethically grounded governance.

This milestone underlines RES’s commitment to advancing Africa’s technological future by supporting governments and institutions in making informed, data-driven decisions that will shape health policies and systems for years to come.
